Inmate photo FAQ: cost, delivery timing, tracking, and facility rules
Send photos to an inmate in the USA
Before you upload photos, make sure the mail can actually reach the person. Search federal BOP records or choose a state, county, city, or juvenile facility, then confirm the address and rules before checkout.
A photo order starts with the same practical questions people have before mailing anything to a facility: what will it cost, when might it arrive, will there be tracking, and what can cause rejection.
The flow keeps the address and recipient details in front of the upload step, so the photos are attached to a mail-ready recipient instead of a generic print order.
If the facility publishes specific limits for photo count, paper, image content, scanned mail, or sender details, follow those rules before checkout.
Estimated timing
| Mail route | Estimated timing | What can add time |
|---|---|---|
| PieterPost to U.S. facility | 5-7 business days | Postal network |
| Facility mailroom to inmate | Varies by facility | Inspection, scanning, local rules |
These are estimates, not guarantees. Weekends, holidays, postal delays, and facility screening can add time.
How the inmate photo flow works
- Choose whether the person is in federal BOP custody or another U.S. correctional system.
- Search or select the facility and confirm the mailing address before uploading photos.
- Upload photo pages, review the order, and pay securely before anything is printed.
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to send inmate photos?
A U.S. inmate photo order uses the same regular mail route as a letter. The base mailing starts at $3, and each uploaded photo page adds $0.50. You see the exact total before payment.
How long do inmate photos take to arrive?
Estimated U.S. letter delivery is usually 5-7 business days after mailing, but correctional facilities can add their own screening time. Facility mailrooms may scan, inspect, or hold mail before the person receives it.
Are inmate photo rules the same everywhere?
Not always. Some facilities accept photo pages, some scan all incoming mail, and some restrict content, paper, quantity, or image types. Check the facility rules before sending anything sensitive, decorative, or time-sensitive.
Can I use BOP for every inmate?
Use BOP only for federal inmates. For state prisons, county jails, city jails, and juvenile facilities, use the facility lookup path and confirm the official mailing address.
Will I get tracking or proof of delivery?
No. PieterPost sends regular mail and does not currently provide tracking, certified mail, registered mail, proof of delivery, or arrival notifications.
Do I need an account to send photos?
No. You can upload, preview, and pay without creating a PieterPost account. Recipient details and uploads are handled for this order.
